NBC Compliance Tool for ETABS

Checking an ETABS model against the seismic code means working through the same list again and again: material grades, modal mass, drift, torsion, load combinations, base shear.

I built this after doing the same checks by hand too many times.

The input is the ETABS model itself. The tool connects to the running model through the OAPI and reads the geometry, design results and analysis settings it needs.

The code is NBC 105:2025. The report clauses also cite NBC 114, IS 456, IS 1893 and IS 13920.

Each check is a clause. Examples are Inter-storey Drift (ULS and SLS), Torsional Irregularity, Soft-Storey Check, Mass Irregularity, Modal Mass Participation, Load Combinations, Accidental Eccentricity, Diaphragm Assignment, and Base Shear and K Validation.

Every check gets one of four statuses: PASS, WARN, FAIL or N/A. The report is a Compliance Schedule that puts each value next to its code limit and utilisation ratio. Each check card then gives the code requirement, why it matters, the model status, the result and notes.

The tool is released as a free Windows download, currently v0.1.46. The report exports to PDF and works fully offline, with an embedded 3D view of the model.

The sample report is a 26-page run on a 4-storey irregular RC moment frame called Demo. It checked 26 clauses: 15 pass, 2 warnings, 3 fails and 6 n/a. The fails are Mass Irregularity, Beam Dimensional Limits and Diaphragm Assignment.
